It was renamed Mardi Gras in 2008, one year after the addition of table games. Its current owner, Delaware North, purchased the property in 2018.

Wheeling Island added table games and changed its name to Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack in 2008.
Wheeling Island currently has the second-largest slot offering behind Hollywood Casino, with over 1,100 machines.
